US States Souvenirs

I need help analyzing this poem, Late Landing?
I need as much detail as possible to help me like, about the different lines, about the mood, tone all about the poem.
Thanks for the help in advance and here is the poem…
It’s 1:30 and raining
as we wake above pittsburgh,
but we feel back in Paris
asleep in hotel beds
dreaming of a rusty-lipped stewardess,
the long, black Atlantic
and naps in foam seats
that recline just so far.
We walk drugged, down the ramp
like game-show contestants
to an audience of parents,
wide waves and broad smiles.
Mom hugs me too hard
and wipes at her cheeck
was nine days that long?
I tell her i loved it,
did you get my postcards?
we drank coffee from bowls there,
and headlights were yellow,
Dad’s in the car?
there wet trunk lid slams
and wipers start whining
I shiver cold and numb
Mom leans over the seat
and sighs for her secret,
“On the day that you left
Grandpa Died.”
By Julia M. Spicher
This poem started out very peaceful and joyous, but then it took a complete turn towards a somber mood. Lines 1-8 are all directed on the peaceful mood from the vacation and then even the airplane ride (usually people hate airplane rides so I think it was a calm before the storm type of feeling). Lines 9-12 are happy and joyful, reuniting with family and friends and seeing all smiles (seems to be perfectly normal). Lines 13 and 14, the character seems oblivious to the happenings back home and assumes that his mom was crying about him. Lines 15 and 16 indicate that he had a great time (he is telling this to his sorrowful mother knowing that a death has happened while he was on this great trip). Line 23 “I shiver cold and numb” he said this once he got IN the car with his mom (not outside), I think it might be that he had a feeling that something wasn’t right. Lines 24-27 it seems that his mother really did not want to make his fun filled vacation turn into him leaving right when a family member had passed; she sighs as if she didn’t want to tell him but she knows she has to.
This all shows that you can be the happiest person in the world at one moment and it can be immediately brought down to a sadness with only a couple words. The poem can also interpreted in the way that a person may really be happier without knowing about what would make them upset, ignorance is bliss.
